Spied – Production Hyundai ix25 compact SUV fully revealed (India-bound)

The production-ready Hyundai ix25 was spied in China recently, and upon closer inspection, there are a few changes compared to the near-production concept shown at the Beijing Motor Show this year.

Toned down headlights and bumper turn the concept ix25 into a production ready EcoSport battler.

The headlights on the concept had bright LED daytime strips (possibly to attract the motor show audience), while the production model gets a mellowed down version with a smaller strip. The bumper of the production model includes foglights (not seen on the concept), but misses out on the larger skid guard seen on the concept; it instead gets a smaller skid guard on its chin.

Hyundai ix25 production model spied rear
Changes at the rear are very minimal with a reworked registration plate enclosure and new scruff plate.

Comparing the side profile of the crossover, Hyundai has obviously given the large alloy wheels and low profile tires a miss, opting instead for five-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear of the production ix25 is devoid of the chrome enclosures (which acted as the exhaust of the concept car) seen on the concept model and gets a more pronounced enclosure for the number plate.

Apart from these minor modifications, and a new chrome grille, the ix25 stays true to the concept model. The SUV will launch in the Chinese market reportedly on October 9. The rumored variants and prices of the ix25 puts it right on the path of the Ford EcoSport.

Expect the ix25 to enter India next year.

Competitors – Ford EcoSport, Nissan Juke, Renault Duster, Fiat 500X, Honda Vezel, Mahindra Scorpio

Expected price in India – INR 8-10 lakh ex-showroom

    Hi Shrawan,

I agree – in part – with your views. sure, you are corect on relative pricing and positioning. But let us be frank here, the Ecosport is appreciable smaller than the Duster and – i guess – the iX25.

Whether they pressed the bumper inwards or whatever crazy claims they were to make, even a lay person can tell that the Ecosport and Duster are half a size apart.

Anyways, please read the comment by Anjanji on July 1 that attests to my views.

    Thanks for your viewpoints.

    great find.

@Anjanji. Will this be under 4m????
Only then can we expect it to be attractively priced.

To me, it seems above 4m and will attract higher duties.
@Anjanji. Do you see this model positioned above the Duster/Terrano duo?
I expect the pricing to be premium, like other hyundai models.

Please let us know your views.

    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi Guru, the ix25 is not a sub-4 meter offering. It should be (expected) priced in the wavelength of the Duster.

        Thanks Anjanji.

So it really then is more of a Duster/Terrano competitor than it is an “EcoSport battler” as stated (perhaps misleadingly) in your article.

        Thanks sirji.

        Hi Guru,

The ix25 is indeed an EcoSport rival in China as the Ford measures more than 4 meters in length in China.

Even if you were to compare the sub 4 meter EcoSport with the ix25, they fall under the small category in terms of body size.

There is nothing misleading about this.

      3. guru g says:

YOU ARE MISLEADING READERS with your INCOMPETENT INTERNET RESEARCH.

All Ecoport are of same length.

Ecosport is length 4241 mm in BRAZIL because spare wheel is counted in length.

Ecosport is length 4280 mm in CHINA because spare wheel is counted in length and the Chinese version has a hard case cover for the spare wheel that adds further some mm.

But only in India it is under 4metre because spare wheel is NOT counted in length.

Duster is length 4315 mm without spare wheel. AND is the right model of comparison for ix25 in China AND India.

        PLEASE CORRECT YOUR MISTAKE.

        Have humility and be honest.

      4. Hello Mr. Guru,

Ford had to marginally reduce the EcoSport’s length to fit it into the ‘small car’ category. This was revealed to me by Mr. Ehab Kaoud, the chief designer of the EcoSport, when I met him at the media launch of the car. He told me that the area around the registration plate at the front had to be pushed in slightly to achieve this. If you wish I can mark out the area which he spoke of, in an image. We are not talking about the spare wheel here.

The EcoSport is certainly a competitor to the ix25 – the classification in China would be ‘B Segment SUV’. The ix25, EcoSport, Duster (based on the Sandero hatchback) and the Peugeot 2008 are SUVs that are based on the B-Segment cars with seating for five persons. In India however, the segmentation becomes different as the sub-4m rule exists and cars that meet this criteria get a considerable cut in prices. In China or Brazil, this does not exist. Hence you will see the price positioning of the cars being very different (relative to each other) outside India.

We are not misleading readers and the our research is not ‘incompetent’. I hope you will agree now.
