The Jeep Renegade-based Fiat 500X SUV was caught on test in Italy by Mr. Cristian Seiello of AutoBlog. The 500X was earlier reported have its reveal this month, however, it seems Fiat have rescheduled the preview for a later date.

The Fiat 500X is based on the Jeep Renegade.

Based on the Fiat-Chrysler Small-Wide platform, the 500X and Renegade share their underpinnings and several components. However, the design of the 500X will be resemblant of the iconic 500, whereas the Renegade retains Jeep's design virtues. Inside, where the Renegade is utility oriented, the 500X will feature a similar dashboard seen on the 500 series of cars focussing on style.

The 500X and Renegade share key hardware and are dimensionally similar, but the styling and target customers differ vastly.

Though the test mule looks like a Renegade in these pictures, it could merely be testing out the underpinnings/engines using a hacked body shell. However, expect overall dimensions of the 500X to closely match the car its based on.

The Renegade and 500X are not on Fiat India's immediate plans.

In India, Fiat has no immediate plans of launching the 500X, or even the Jeep Renegade for that matter. Instead, India will get the Punto-based Avventura crossover (which launches before September). Jeep on the other hand will enter India in 2015 with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
