Audi India will commence pre-launch bookings for the A3 Sedan on August 1, Indian Autos Blog comes to know. Dealers of the company will start accepting bookings for INR 3.5 lakhs, ahead of the car's launch on August 7.
Audi India started assembly of the A3 Sedan at its Aurangabad facility earlier last week. The entry-level luxury sedan will be offered with two engine options. The petrol A3 gets power from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder TFSI engine making 180 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, and the diesel uses a 2.0-liter TDI capable of producing 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Both variants get a dual-clutch gearbox, though the petrol gets 7 speeds the diesel makes do with 6.
The ARAI rated efficiency of the A3 Sedan stands at 16.6 km/l for the petrol and 20.38 km/l for the diesel. Unlike other Audis which are badged as per their engine, the A3 Sedan will introduce Audi's new 'dynamic nomenclature'. The petrol will be called '40 TFSI' and the diesel will use the '35 TDI' nameplate.
Until the Mercedes CLA is launched (which is announced to happen within 6 months), the A3 Sedan will rival the Mercedes A Class and the BMW 1 Series.
