Video – Get up close with the India-bound all-new VW Passat B8

The all-new VW Passat B8 sedan and estate were revealed this week with sales in Europe scheduled to begin on July 10. Here are a collection of official videos of the eighth generation model of what VW likes to call as the “most successful European business car”.

The 2015 VW Passat follows an evolutionary design with more accentuated creases and lines. The car is based on the VW MQB platform which is made up of a combination of high-strength and hot-formed steels, helping the Passat shed a good 85 kg compared to the outgoing model. The lightest variant of the new Passat now weighs just 1,312 kg.

The new sedan is 4,767 mm long, 1,832 mm wide and 1,456 mm tall. It is shorter (by 2 mm), wider (by 12 mm) and lower (by 6 mm) than its predecessor. The wheelbase has been increased by 79 mm to 2,791 mm while the front and rear tracks are widened by 31 mm (to 1,584 mm) and 14 mm (to 1,568 mm) respectively.

On the inside, the car gets revamped dashboard design with upmarket features like the Active Info Display that is derived from the 2015 Audi TT. The interior room has also been enhanced. The sedan’s boot now measures at 586 litres in volume (bigger by 26 litres) while the estate boasts of a 650 litre boot (up by 47 litres).

The equipment list has been expanded to include a number of assistance systems. The new Passat offers optional LED headlights with Dynamic Light Assist.

The powertrain lineup includes 10 direct injection turbocharged petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 120 PS to 280 PS.

VW India is keen on bringing the new Passat to India. Expect to see it possibly sometime next year.

    I guess there would be one hybrid engine as well with total power output of 211 PS. Though it would be for the first time, but still, what’s your info over that?
