Indian Autos Blog reader '10kets' snapped the Tata Zest compact sedan in Mumbai recently. The Zest and the Bolt are major launches lined up for the second half of this year. We expect to see the Zest launch anytime after July.
Based on the same platform as the Vista, the Zest is a sub-4 meter compact sedan that will rival the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent. The sub-4 meter sedan segment, or the compact sedan segment, grew by 27 percent last year, while the rest of the industry witnessed a slowdown.
Tata claim they have re-done the exterior and interior of the Zest (and Bolt). The inside of the car is seen with a new 3-spoke steering wheel design, a new dashboard layout, a new center console with a Harman entertainment system.
The Zest will launch with a petrol and diesel engine option. The diesel engine is the same 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced Multijet motor seen on other Tata vehicles like the Vista and Manza. On the Zest, this engine produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual or automated manual transmission (AMT). The Zest petrol is powered by Tata's new 1.2-liter turbocharged Revotron engine which produces 85 PS and 140 Nm of torque.
Expect the Zest to be priced on par with its competition.
