Last time we spoke with Land Rover's design head Gerry McGovern on a go-faster version of the Range Rover Sport to attack the Porsche Cayenne from different directions, he said it "would be nice" to have it.

Today the company released the first teaser video of car. It was shot at the Nürburgring, where prototypes were sighted numerous times during its testing and development. The RS version, hopefully holding back the Range Rover Sport's tractor-like off-roading qualities, can match the performance of a sportscar on a race track.
As we reported, expect it to come with a dialed up version of the 5.0-liter V8 engine with 550 PS of power and 680 Nm of torque. This a whole 40 PS and 55 Nm more than the current top of the line supercharged Range Rover Sport. It will accelerate the car to 100 kph from zero in a whopping 4.8 seconds, to reach a top speed of 265 kph. The RS would then become the fastest Range Rover variant ever made.
Land Rover may not sell India the hybrid Range Rover or the long wheelbase citing poor demand, but the rapid expansion of the AMG model line in India and BMW India's plan of making 2014 the "Year of the M" says something about the future market for premium class performance products in India. Surely Land Rover must be taking note.
