Tata Motors is not the only Indian carmaker to have a product plan till the start of the next decade. Speaking to Economic Times, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, said that his company too has products planned till 2022-2025. Dr. Goenka said that these plans are based on future consumer interest and level of competition.
While he did not specifically outline the products, Dr. Goenka mentioned that there will be three new platforms for automotive market and one for farm equipment. These platforms will come with "many variants and refreshes", he is quoted as saying. Further more, Dr. Goenka said that existing products would not be cannibalized by the new launches.
One among the three platforms will be used on the Mahindra S101 compact SUV, which would launch next year. Based on spyshots which confirm a sub-4 meter length, the S101 would be the smallest (petrol/diesel) car Mahindra has ever made. The S101, apart from introducing a new platform since the XUV500, would also show us a Mahindra-developed, 1.2-liter petrol engine.
Mahindra has also started work on the next gen Bolero. Codenamed U301, the new Bolero was caught on test recently. Products like the S101, U301, P601 and a successor for the Scorpio should establish a firm ground for Mahindra in the future.
