Spied – A new base variant for the 2014 Fiat Linea?

Posted on: Jun 24, 2014 - 12:03pm IST

Fiat India launched the refreshed 2014 Linea back in March this year. These spyshots suggest that Fiat could introduce a base variant on the refreshed Linea targeting a lower starting price. Note that this could also be an older test mule that hasn’t finished its work in the field.

The 2014 Linea could get a new base variant.

The test mule seen here wears black bumpers and inside, the music system is missing (Fiat Linea offers a CD/MP3 player as standard). If launched, this variant of the Linea could be priced well below INR 6.99 lakhs which is the current ex-Showroom price of the base Linea Active. The model could be positioned between the 2014 Linea Active (INR 6.99 lakhs) and the Linea Classic (INR 5.99 lakhs).

A music system, which is standard on the 2014 Linea, is missing in this image.

While details are very sketchy, the base 2014 Linea could source its power from the 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is good for an ARAI rated 14.9 km/l.

Of late, sales of the Linea have seen a slump.

Sales of the Linea have taken a hit post the launch of the refreshed model. In March, the Linea accounted for 664 units for Fiat India while subsequent months of April and May saw sales drop to 281 units and 229 units respectively.

I dont think 1.3 engine or space is the reason for Fiat under performing .Its the negativities which has been cropped over the period of time most importantly regrading service. When compared Fiat cars are the best in every aspect.Fiat always had issues regarding service 10 -15years back also.I dont know why they cant organize a better service network.Dont they have competent people enough to manage a simple efficient network.
I dont know why they always lag behind in Marketing and service.

I hope they are just testing something else, but if they are actually launching this, then its gonna be a very dumb move.

What they really should be testing though is the 1.6MJD or a new 1.5L version like VW is planning to do. I can’t imagine these guys believe the sales are going to increase for the linea with just a facelift, without upgrading the underpowered 1.3VGT mill. Ask anybody who bought any other sedan, why they didn’t consider the linea – the answer would invariably be that its severely underpowered.

I am pretty sure either Fiat itself is doing Harakiri or some other rival or partner is hell bent on Buying Fiat-India.
when will they listen to Buyers ?

    Give Better Service First.

Give respect to old Fiat car owners like Uno, Palio and Stile. they were great cars but now they have very low resale value only because no parts are available for the owners. If Fiat care for Fans please give support and service for ALL FIAT cars no matter whether they are in production or not.

Why Fiat want to give Diesel Engine technology to rivals ? they are laughing all the way to bank All Thanks to Fiat Diesel Engine Technology. they don’t even give credit to Fiat.

Looks like Fiat is trying different (possibly wrong) things to improve sales. But they have to do following 2 straightforward things

    1. Improve after sales service. Still hearing stories of parts unavailability, very average service, failing parts etc.

    2. Give spacious cars which Indians like. Many people drop Fiats from their shortlist because of lack of space.

To hell with you Fiat India !!!
See if you can think of a lower variant for Punto also to compete with Tata Indica taxi segment ! while we think of DDCT and 1.6 MJD for you.
