Live – Isuzu D-MAX and Space Cab launched from INR 5.99 lakhs

Isuzu Motors today launched the Isuzu D-Max and D-Max Space Cab in an event held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Japanese manufacturer also opened its first ever dealership in Maharashtra, located in Mumbai, today, announcing plans to open dealer outlets in Delhi and Vishakapatnam by the end of this month.

The Space Cab debuted in India at the Auto Expo in February this year. Based on the D-Max, the Space Cab has a specially built cabin space of 1.5 feet behind the driver’s seat and is targeted at the owner driven customer.

Power for all D-Max variants comes from a BS4 compliant 2.5-liter diesel engine producing 134 hp and 294 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The pickups are rated for 1.2 ton payload. The Space Cab gets features such as AC and power windows.

According to Isuzu, India will become the world’s largest pickup truck market in 10 years with expected sales of 800,000 units per annum. Isuzu says that the pickup segment was the only CV segment to have witnessed a positive growth last year.

Come 2016, Isuzu will start local manufacturing at an upcoming plant located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The plant will have an initial capacity of 50,000 units/annum, though it will later be scaled up to 120,000 units/annum. Isuzu is targeting 100 percent localization. Vehicles made at this plant will also be exported to other international markets.

    I can’t understand the pricing logic.

    If D-Max could be priced from 5.99 L, then why is MU-7 starting at 23 L ???
    I guess it is the same underpinning with ONLY a different body style.
    Wasn’t it possible for Isuzu to price MU-7 around 11 L INR???

      Dear Ramish,

      The MU 7 & D-Max is of different platform & Specifications. The parts are imported & assembled in India. When you compare a SUV of the same specification the price of MU 7 is lower.
