Report - Yamaha clocks sales of 14,000 units for Alpha in 2 months

Yamaha Motor India has managed to grab 14,000 orders for its 110 cc Alpha that was launched at the Auto Expo 2014.

Speaking to Autocar Professional during the regional launch of the scooter in Bangalore, the company's vice-president, Roy Kurian said that the company is looking to increase its share in South India. With current levels ranging between 6 percent in motorcycles and 5 percent in scooters, Kurian aims to increase this to 15 percent and 12 percent respectively, within the next 6 months.

He also mentioned that the Alpha has a target of selling 20,000 units each month in the near future and expects 50 percent of that volume to come from the Southern states. During the launch at the Auto Expo, the company had mentioned that it aims to sell 200,000 units of the Alpha within the first year of its launch.

The Alpha features an air-cooled four-stroke 113 cc engine with CVT. It promises a mileage of 62 kmpl and storage capacity of 2 liters. The Alpha’s key features include telescopic suspension at the front and upright type rear suspension. It is priced at Rs 49,518 (Ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The Japanese manufacturer had also showcased the R25 concept motorcycle at the Auto Expo 2014, along with the FZ-S concept. The new FZ-S is set to be launched soon and has been spied several times.
