Hyundai India is considering launching the 2014 Hyundai Genesis as a flagship halo product. The new Genesis went on sale in its home market late last year, shortly after which Hyundai showcased the sedan at the Detroit Motor Show this year ahead of its American launch.
Based on an all-new rear-wheel drive platform, the Genesis measures a BMW 5 Series beating 4.99 meters in length. The Genesis is the first Hyundai to feature the Fluidic Sculpture v2.0 design language. The car is offered in Korea with four engine options, starting from a 3.0-liter V6 and ending with a 5.0-liter V8.
Autocar says that the version likely to launch in India will be the 3.8-liter V6 petrol which produces 315 PS and 40.5 kgm of torque (no diesel option yet). An 8-speed automatic transmission ensures the Genesis does 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and a top-speed of 240 km/h. The publication estimates the Genesis to be priced at INR 45 lakhs.
The Genesis, if launched in India, will be brought into the country via the CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route from Korea. Hyundai announced that they target to sell 62,000 units of the Genesis this year globally (32,000 units reserved for Korea and 30,000 units for overseas markets).
While India may not significantly contribute to sales, the Genesis can be a brand shaper for Hyundai.
