BMW today unveiled the BMW X4 for the American market at the ongoing New York Auto Show.
The X3's bigger brother X4, in the USA, gets 3 petrol engines and 3 diesel engines, with power outputs ranging from 184 hp to 313 hp.
While the new generation 2.0-liter diesel engines do duty for the xDrive 20d, the four-cylinder 2.0-liter petrol engines are found in the xDrive 28i and xDrive 20i. For the 28i and 20i, the engines make 258 hp and 184 hp respectively. A bigger engine on the top-end x35i produces 306 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm.
The xDrive 20d gets the four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and makes 190 hp of power and produces 400 Nm of torque. A bigger 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine is found in the xDrive 35d making 313 hp and 630 Nm of peak torque. A variant of the 30d sees a 3.0-liter straight-six engine making 258 hp and peak torque of 560 Nm.
Auto start/stop function comes as standard as part of BMW's technology package for the X4 that also offers a coasting function if the 8-speed automatic box is fitted. Brake energy regeneration low rolling-resistance 17-inch tyres are other fuel saving features on the SUV.
Serial production of the BMW X4 will begin in at the Spartanburg plant in Spring, and hit the market at a starting price of $45,625 (INR 27.54 lakh)
