The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe has been unveiled at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The premium mid-size four-door coupe joins the M4 and the two-door 4 Series as the third member of the 4 Series family.
Two models, the 418d and the 435i were unveiled. The 4-door coupe measures the same as the two-door coupe, with 4,638 mm of length, 1,825 mm of width and a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. The roof of the Gran Coupe is 12 mm higher and 112 mm longer than the 2-door avatar.
The cars get a 480 liter boot, 35 liters more than that of the two-door version. The 40:20:40 split folding backrest of the rear seat allows a maximum cargo volume of 1,300 litres. BMW offers a 'Smart Opener' feature which can open and close the boot lid with the action of the foot.
A choice of 5 engines are on offer for the 4 Series Gran Coupe. The 435i's top-end model gets a six-cylinder in-line 3.0-liter that develops 306 hp. The 428i and the 420i models get four-cylinder 2-liter engines that deliver 245 hp and 184 hp respectively.
For the diesel variants, BMW offers two four-cylinder engines. The 420d gets an engine that delivers 184 hp and the one in the 418d produces 143 hp. Both the petrol and diesel engines are Euro 6 compliant, says BMW.
While standard variants of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe come with a six-speed manual transmission, all engines can be combined either with the 8-speed Steptronic or the 8-speed sport Steptronic transmission that also gets paddle shifters.
All models of the 4 Series Gran Coupe use BMW's EfficientDynamics strategy that features air curtains, air breathers, brake energy regeneration, auto start/stop function and gear shift indicator for improving efficiency.
