A substantial facelift for the ageing Mahindra Scorpio has been in the works since last year at Mahindra's Research Valley in Chennai. With each set of spyshots, we learn something new about the car.

The dashboard and steering wheel are completely new.

Examining spyshots posted by 'saubhagyab' on TheAutomotiveIndia.com, we get further confirmation that a full interior makeover is also planned for the refresh (codename - Mahindra W105) which is expected in showrooms in the second half of this year.

The camouflaged test vehicle is seen sporting a completely new dashboard with an updated instrument cluster. The dashboard colour, texture and its look are new, complete with the XUV500's steering wheel. The steering wheel, hand brake and gear lever are in black, compared to the all-beige setup on the current Scorpio.

The seats and doors however appear unchanged, except for the stitching pattern on the cover and the inside door handles.

The grille, bumper and headlamps, as seen before, are new.

The image of the front-end confirms what we knew before - the Scorpio will see major changes here with the inclusion of projector lamps with a dark tint. The door skins appear different in some spyshots, whereas the rear of the car would be decked with LED taillights.

Where there will be no change is under the hood. Expect the same 2.2-liter mHawk engine that generates 120 bhp, paired to either a 5-speed manual or the 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Scorpio is over ten years old, but it still averages over 4,000 units a month in Indian sales, allowing Mahindra to take its time developing the new car.
