Tata Motors has announced that it will showcase a new petrol engine on 20th January in Mumbai. Part of the company's Horizonext program, the engine is, the company claims, "set for a revolution that will change the face of the Indian automobile industry".

2014 Tata Vista facelift spied side
The 2014 Tata Vista Falcon 4, as spied in Italy, could get the turbocharged 1.2-liter petrol engine.

Karl Slym, Managing Director of Tata Motors had written in a newspaper column earlier this month that Tata Motors will "bring a completely new range of cars" this year revealing that an "all-new" petrol engine is under works. Tata's sales constitutes of mostly diesel models, given that the Nano is the only Tata model not offered with a diesel option, yet.

Tata Vista D90 engine
The present Tata India Vista uses a naturally aspirated Fiat 1.2-liter petrol engine, while the Manza employs a 1.4-liter Fiat unit.

We are told that the company's new gasoline engine is a turbocharged unit of the same 1.2-liter (XETA) engine that was available on the Tata Indica eV2. While that engine (currently not listed on the Tata Indica website) developed 65 PS, at least 100 PS can be expected from a turbocharged guise.

Given that Tata is likely to show its 'Falcon' vehicles - a refresh of the Indica Vista termed the Falcon 4 and a sub-4meter compact sedan - at the 2014 Auto Expo, we expect these models to be powered by the all-new petrol engine.
