The next generation Tata Winger was spied testing in Tamil Nadu recently. As these images reveal, Tata will use the Renault Master’s platform to develop the next generation of its people mover vehicle.

The next generation Winger will be based on the Renault Master’s platform.

The current Winger is also a Renault underneath (its based on the old Renault Trafic’s platform). However, our sources inform us that Tata Motors has no plan of discontinuing the current Winger even after the Master-based model is launched. In fact, Tata would carry out a facelift exercise on the current Winger to extend its life span, while the Master-based model would be positioned and priced over the current Winger.

The new Winger, like the current model, will be offered with various seating configurations. A 9+D, 12+D and 13+D are some configurations Tata would likely use on the vehicle.

Base models of the new Winger could use the 2.0-liter TCIC engine (which is used on the current Winger) which is capable of producing 90 bhp at 4,300 rpm and 190 Nm of torque between 2,000-3,000 rpm.

The higher variants of the new Winger will source their power from either a 3.0-liter engine or a 2.2-liter VariCOR motor. The 3.0-liter unit, which is currently used on the Sumo Gold, is available in BS 3 and BS 4 specifications and produces 70 PS and 223 Nm of torque in BS 3 spec, and 85 PS and 250 Nm of torque in BS 4 spec.

The 2.2-liter engine powering the Safari Storme develops a much higher 140 PS and 320 Nm of torque. We expect to see the new Winger launch in the later part of this year. Stay tuned to Indian Autos Blog for further updates.
