Report – Ford EcoSport prices hiked by INR 75,000 since launch

Posted on: Jan 13, 2014 - 9:14am IST

Ford India launched the EcoSport in June last year at competitive prices. Starting from INR 5.59 lakhs for the base petrol, even the feature-packed EcoSport Diesel Titanium (O) was available for INR 8.99 lakhs.

However, apart from the initial set of customers who were lucky enough to get their cars delivered within the first couple of months, other would-be EcoSport owners are looking at a massive price hike. That’s right, Ford has hiked the prices of the EcoSport for the second time.

The top-end diesel variant announced at INR 8.99 lakhs in June costed INR 9.37 lakhs after the first price hike in September. Now though, Ford India’s website lists this model at INR 9.74 lakhs ex-Showroom, New Delhi. That’s a price increase of a whopping INR 75,000 in less than six months.

As Team BHP reports, the average price hike across all variants since launch-January 2014 is INR 64,000. In fact, the EcoSport seems even more expensive now thanks to the newly-launched Mahindra XUV500 W4 base variant. At INR 10.95 lakhs, the XUV is a three-row 7-seater SUV, unlike the EcoSport, which at the end of the day, is a Fiesta on stilts.

The EcoSport in India is available with three engine options – a 1.5-liter petrol, a 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel.

Even with the price increase of 75K, Ecosport still looks like a better option compared to other hatchback and few entry sedans.

It was unfortunate that , price increase was inevitable due to rupee depreciation against USD. Due to this Ford would be paying more money to auto component suppliers. Not only ford, even other car manufacturers also affected by this economic slow down. For instance, Maruti is over priced the swift variants even though they have very good sales, this is to compensate the loss occured with other models.

I have booked Ecosport in july 13 and got shocked today when i recieved letter from delear and found the price s hiked by 75K in 1.5 Tit(O).
This type of pricing strategy will not work in India Automobile market for long time. Ford can’t take customer on ride by increasing two times price of Ecosport in 6month of launch. If there all previous model dosen’t hit in Indian road, by the god grace one model is being liked by Indian customer and company is taking full unusual advantage from the customer.
We should take a stand and boycott to use Ford Ecosports and cancelled all the booking and go for other SUVs option available in India.
New More models is about to launch in indian road by 2014 in same segment by other company like, Honda, Maruti, VW, XA Alpha etc…..

A Classic case of destroying a good product. I booked ES on 21st Aug with Expected Delivery in Feb.2013 now have to pay 75K more, so getting it cancelled today. This product was good just because of aggressive pricing which caught the fancy of Indian Buyer. Got the news of price hike from a VW Rep visiting me in the 1st week of jan. Asked Ford Rep abt this and he confirmed me the same also telling me if I can go for the vehicle within a day he can arrange the same on the old price 8.05 L for Diesel Trend at Patiala. But as there was no news regarding this on the net so didn’t reacted. But today when this got confirmed to me, I have decided to withdraw my booking as Ford has confirmed itself as an unethical company. Its not only the car but the spares/ Service which is required form company. So better not to get into a relationship with someone or some company who has shown its intent to bring troubles for you. Better Refrain from FORD. Its truely a Fraud Company, rightly said in a Review on Carwale.com, which I ignored earlier. Better wait for this year there are atleast 3-4 new Mini SUVs lined up for Indian Launch.

End of the road for ES. Buyers have to wait for XA Alpha, VW Taigun etc. Already people are finding Bolero quite cheaper and proven metal.
