America’s best-selling truck for 37 consecutive years and Uncle Sam’s most bought vehicle for the past 32 years has been reinvented at the 2014 NAIAS.

The 2015 Ford F-150 is a completely redeveloped vehicle sporting familiar looks on an all-aluminium body. Thanks to the switch in construction material, the 2015 model has shed 700 pounds (317.5 kg) compared to the outgoing truck. The vehicle’s chassis is however made of high-strength steel that is now rated at a higher 70,000 psi.

Two trucks have been announced with two new engine options – a 2.7-liter EcoBoost with Auto Start-Stop and a 3.5-liter V6 engine with variable cam timing. These join the existing 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8. Without revealing data, Ford say that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine generates about the same power as some mid-range V8 engines.

The equipment list sees plenty of additions such as LED headlamps, 360-degree camera view, trailer hitch assist and remote tailgate.

Upgraded safety systems include lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, curve control and inflatable rear seat belts.

The 2015 Ford F-150 hits the stores in late 2014 in five primary trim levels – XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. It will continue to be manufactured at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan, and Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri.
