PT. Toyota Astra Motor (Toyota Indonesia) today announced the launch of the new Toyota Corolla Altis, the 11th generation model, in two variants. Unveiled in June last year, the new Corolla has a 100 mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing car and is wider and longer as well.
The new Corolla is offered with the same 1.8-liter petrol engine in Indonesia paired to manual and automatic transmissions. The engine produce 151 PS @ 6,400 rpm and 19.4 kgm @ 4,000 RPM.
Priced at 372.1 million rupiah (Rs. 18.9 lakh), the car is 16 million rupiah (Rs. 81,296) more expensive than the outgoing Altis. The automatic transmission variant is priced at 400 million Indonesian rupiah (Rs. 20.67 lakh).
IAB readers know that the new Corolla is a first-time exhibit at the 2014 Auto Expo to be held in Noida next month.
The Indonesian car comes from Toyota’s Thailand plant. Until the Indonesian launch, the plant in Sakarya, Turkey was the only production location for the global Corolla. It was confirmed earlier today that the Thai plant would also export to Australia, in time for the local launch next month. The current Corolla Altis for India comes from Thailand (as CKD) and this is expected to continue with the new generation model as well.
In terms of equipment, dual airbags, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist come standard on both variants.
Projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, auto-dimming internal mirror, 17-inch alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers, leather wrapped steering, 2 DIN entertainment system, 8-way adjustable driver seat, and automatic airconditioning are some of the key features reserved to the more expensive automatic variant.
