Maruti’s new car, Celerio, has been caught in the wild. Thanks to MotorBeam, we get a first look at the compact hatch that will soon be launched in the country.
The car spotted at the Buddh International Circuit was the top-of-the-line ZXi variant. The Celerio’s design appears true to the A:Wind concept’s showcased at the Thailand Motor Show.
The design of the Celerio is fresh and the car appears to have good design proportions. The headlamps are big and get a smoked look and are connected with a two slat chrome grille, while the front bumper is wide and has a huge air intake along with integrated foglamps.
The rear end of the Celerio will instantly remind you of the Swift due to its wraparound windshield and the integrated roof spoiler (certainly not bad, as the latter is a very good design itself). The loading height seems to be at an acceptable level, unlike the one in the A-Star.
Other features we noticed are the 6-spoke alloys and turn indicators equipped on the wing mirrors.
The Celerio will be equipped with an automated manual transmission (AMT) called ‘EZ DRIVE’. It would be the first car in India to sport such a gearbox. The AMT provides a clutch-free driving experience and is said to be more fuel efficient than a manual gearbox while also being cheaper than a conventional automatic transmission.
The Celerio will be powered by a 1.0-liter K-Series three-cylinder engine producing 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that does its duty on the A-Star and Alto K10.
The Celerio will have its world debut at the Auto Expo next month and would replace the A-Star in India. It will take the place of the Suzuki Alto/Celerio in international markets.
