Mercedes-Benz today launched the SLK 55 AMG in India. Based on the SLK which is already sold in the country, the SLK 55 gets its engine from Affalterbach, Germany, which follows Mercedes-AMG's "One man - One Engine" philosophy.
The engine in question is a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 421 hp and 540 Nm of torque. This enables the SLK 55 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in a mere 4.6 seconds, and hit an electronically limited top-speed of 250 km/h. Mercedes offers their AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission as standard, and three driving modes - Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M) - are available.
According to Mercedes, the new model is nearly 30 percent more efficient than the previous version, and in the UK driving cycle, the SLK 55 returns 11.89 km/l and emits 195 g/km of CO2. Along with a start-stop system, the SLK 55 also features cylinder deactivation which shuts off two cylinders under light loads.
To up the performance quotient, the SLK 55 gets a performance-oriented AMG Sports Suspension, Torque Vectoring Brake and AMG Direct-Steer system, while the aesthetics are enhanced thanks to 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, front and rear aprons and side skirts.
The SLK 55 AMG is priced at INR 1.259 crores (ex-Showroom, New Delhi).
The Mercedes AMG lineup in India now consists of the C63 and E63 AMG saloons, the SLS AMG coupe and roadster and the G63 AMG SUV.
