Hyundai will launch the Grand i10-based sedan on February 4th, a day before the 2014 Auto Expo starts for the media, according to an Overdrive report. Based on the same BA platform as the Grand i10 hatch, the sedan will rival the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and the Chevrolet Sail.
Thanks to our reader, Dr. Geo Thachil, we were able to show you spyshots of the Grand i10 sedan. Based on the pictures, it seems that the sedan will share most parts including the rear door with the hatchback. Hyundai designers have given the car a stubby boot, ensuring that it ducks under the crucial 4 meter length.
The sub-4 meter sedan will be available with a petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol engine will be the same four-cylinder 1.2-liter Kappa2 unit which produces 83 PS and 11.6 kgm of torque in the hatchback, hooked either to a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.
The diesel engine will be the three-cylinder U2 CRDi motor displacing 1.1 liters and producing 71 PS and 16.3 kgm of torque. A 5-speed manual will be the only gearbox option for the diesel.
One is inclined to think that the bigger 1.4L motor option would give the notchback a more premium image (and a marked difference) compared to the Grand i10.
Once the Grand i10 is launched on February 4, the Korean carmaker will launch the all-new Santa Fe on February 6 at the Auto Expo itself.
