Deliveries of Audi models for 2013 crossed the 1.5 million mark yesterday. Keys to the milestone vehicle, an Audi A3 Sportback, were handed over to its owner at the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt, Germany.
This milestone is of particular importance to Audi as they were expecting to cross the 1.5 million sales barrier only in 2015.
The VW-owned luxury carmaker has witnessed strong growth in markets such as China in the past decade. Exactly 10 years ago in 2003, global sales of Audi were at 769,900 units. Given that the company has nearly doubled sales within a decade, officials expect to cross the 2 million sales figure in 2020.
Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, said -
We will continue to write this success story and expand our product range from the current 49 to 60 models. We see a great deal of potential, particularly in the SUV segment and in the especially prestigious full-size category.
Audi has already confirmed that they would launch a new Q1 crossover in 2016. Media reports claim that new models such as a Q2, Q4, Q6 and a Range Rover rivaling Q8 are also under consideration. A range-topping Audi A9, set to rival the S Class extra long wheelbase model, could also be part of the new models.
