This week we reported that Ssangyong's Nissan Juke rival, would premiere in Geneva next year.
Now Auto Express reveals that the SUV would come with seven seats. However the car is a five seater in its standard guise.
Produced on an all-new platform and housing Ssangyong-built 1.6-liter petrol and diesel engines, the "Car X" - as it is internally known - will look very similar to the XIV-1 concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show of 2011. The SUV will sit neatly between Nissan's Juke and Qashqai. However, Ssangyong has mentioned that it will be priced "well under £15,000." (15.32 lakh rupees).
While the 2014 Geneva Motor Show is likely to see a near-production version, the Paris Motor Show in September next year will bear witness to the unveiling or launch of the production car. It will go on sale in the UK starting shortly afterwards.
The Ssangyong Car X's nearest competition, the Nissan Qashqai, unlike its previous generation, will not get a seven-seater version. It has instead been replaced by a seven-seater version of the X-Trail positioned in a higher segment, which gives the Car X an immediate talking point compared to the market leader.
Sales of SUVs continue rising across the world, especially with compact SUVs becoming the rage, and Ssangyong believes that it can leverage on the values of a Korean brand to increase its market presence in the UK.
