The Porsche Macan world premiers at the 2013 LA Auto Show today. With the Macan, Porsche enters an all-new segment which is both, price and volume competitive. However, as the Cayenne has proved, there are plenty of takers for an SUV with a Porsche badge.
Dimension wise, the Macan is indeed a mini-Cayenne, measuring 4,675 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,628 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,807 mm. Initially, three variants will be offered - Macan S, Macan Turbo and the Macan Diesel.
The base Macan S is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 340 hp and 460 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h takes 5.5 seconds while the top-speed is rated at 254 km/h. The top-end Macan Turbo on the other hand is powered by a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine producing 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque. Its quicker to 100 km/h taking only 4.8 seconds, while the top-speed is higher at 269 km/h.
The oil-burner is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel (seen in plenty of Audis such as the A4, A6, A7, Q5, Q7). Producing 258 hp and 580 Nm of torque, 0-100 km/h takes 6.2 seconds while the top-speed is rated at 226 km/h.
All variants get the Porsche 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) gearbox as standard.
