The next generation Honda Jazz that will launch in India next year with a petrol and diesel engine, was also part of the cars that Honda presented at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new Jazz is known as the Fit in Japan and the US, and is made in ten locations in eight countries including Japan. Over 2 million units of the new Jazz have been sold in Japan, and sales of 4.87 million units have been recorded worldwide.
The Jazz’s exterior features the ‘crossfade monoform exterior styling’ that is an evolved form of the current gen model. The interiors are designed for better refinement and ease of driving. The rear is seat is designed to provide a more comfortable long distance travel.
The new Jazz gets three engine options –
The first is a 1.3 L Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine paired to a wide-range CVT, that offers 26.0 kmpl. The second engine is a 1.5 L direct injection DOHC i-VTEC which has a 10% higher output than the outgoing engine, and a 1.5 L Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine paired to an electric motor, which is matched to a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) that delivers a class-topping fuel efficiency of 36.4 kmpl (all fuel efficiency figures are from the Japanese driving cycle).
Seen in these images is the RS version which gets a full body kit, and the 1.5-liter DOHC engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The car is based on a new platform which is lighter and more rigid, and supports a body that is more aerodynamic. The newly developed suspension, Honda claims, offers lag-free body roll, and a comfortable ride with minimum vibration.
Safety features on the new Jazz include VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), HSA (Hill-Start Assist) and the Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
