Ducati has displayed the highly exclusive 1199 Superleggera and the new Monster 1200 at the EICMA 2013.
Ducati 1199 Superleggera
For headlines, this motorcycle is built almost entirely from titanium, carbon fiber and magnesium, and sets the world record for the highest power-to-weight ratio for a production motorcycle. The engine develops 200 hp, and the bike weighs just 155kg.
Ducati have planned to make just 500 examples of this motorcycle at its Bologna factory.
The baseline of the motorcycle is inspired by the impressive 1199 Panigale ‘R’ model's specifications. The Superleggera boasts of a magnesium monocoque frame, forged Marchesini magnesium wheels, rear sub-frame and bodywork made of carbon fiber, lithium-ion battery, an exhaust system made of titanium, and stainless steel headers.
Further enhancements come in the form of an Öhlins FL916 front suspension, and an Öhlins TTX36 rear suspension sporting a spring made of titanium.
The Superleggera gets Brembo M50 Monobloc brakes, lightweight Ergal rear sprocket, and SBK-spec 520 drive chain.
The motorcycle's engine features con-rods, inlet valves and exhaust valves made using titanium. The motorcycle also features a two-ring piston.
Ducati gives the customer the option to improve the bike's power to weight ratio by supplying a track-only Race Kit. The kit improves the engine output by 5 hp and reduces the weight of the bike by 2.5 kg.
Ducati Monster 1200
The other big news from Ducati at this year's EICMA is the presentation of the long-awaited Ducati Monster 1200. The new Monster bids goodbye to the air-cooled V-Twin engine and to its place comes a water-cooler Testastretta 11° motor, that power the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and the Ducati Diavel.
The bike's primary steel trellis frame and the steel subframe, hook directly on to the Testastretta 11° engine’s cylinder heads. The bike also shows some touring ability as its fuel tank is expanded to 17.5 liters.
To crunch more numbers, the Testastretta 11° engine puts out a monstrous 135 hp @ 8,750 RPM and a torque of 158.6 Nm @ 7,250 RPM.
The bike features a 'banana' seat which is adjustable for height. The other key highlight is the LCD display similar to the Panigale.
Ducati Monster 1200 S
In true Ducati fashion, the higher spec version of the Monster 1200, the Monster 1200 S, has also been premiered at the show. The motorcycle features a higher spec suspension and a few optical changes.
The most significant difference is in the powertrain. The engine manages to put out an extra 10 hp (145 hp in total).
The Monster 1200 S also gets upgraded 330mm disc brakes which work with the upgraded Brembo M50 radially mounted calipers. The wheels are made from alluminium, the mud gaurd is made from carbon fiber, while the exhaust tips are blacked-out for the extra visual pop.
Ducati 899 Panigale
The Ducati 899 Panigale which was revealed for the first time during the Volkswagen Media Night in Fraport, Frankfurt in September, makes it motor show premiere at the EICMA 2013.
