Report – Tata Falcon to be “performance-oriented models”

Posted on: Nov 26, 2013 - 10:48am IST

Tata Motors is working on upgrading the Vista hatchback, while work on a compact, sub-4m Manza is also taking shape. Internally codenamed project ‘Falcon’, Tata will be showcasing these vehicles at the upcoming Auto Expo in February.

These vehicles have received design inputs from Tata’s technical center in Europe, and according to initial reports, will bear little or no resemblance to the current cars.

The refreshed Vista is codenamed ‘Falcon 4’, and will debut at the Auto Expo.

Speaking to Livemint, Ranjit Yadav, head of Tata’s passenger vehicle business unit, said that the Falcon series of vehicles will be “completely new, performance-oriented models”. Mr. Yadav also said that the focus would be around “driving pleasure” and connectivity. Further, he confirmed that many other models based on the Falcon would be seen in the future.

While the refreshed Vista is codenamed Falcon 4, the compact Manza sedan is codenamed Falcon 5. Based on recent spyshots, it seems that Tata will be offering new features on these cars such as projector headlights.

The refreshed Vista and sub-4m Manza will be launched under a new nameplate.

When these cars launch in 2014, they will no longer use ‘Vista’ or ‘Manza’. Instead, Tata is working on creating a separate and all-new nameplate for these cars.

Hey… A change in headlights taillamps and a grill or a unique colour have always worked for auto manufacturers from the time of the zen classic till now and even in the future … its even given them a reason to charge more for these ‘special’ updates … only until we realise that these silly things dont really matter and that theyre the ones who are taking us for a ride all along will things change for real …. until then lets just take it all with a pinch of salt….Indica..Vista or Falcon…

But at least appearance wise they look exactly like the existing Vista, except for Grill, Head lamp and tail lights. Absolutely no sheet metal changes.

    1. I think the camouflage is hiding the details. The car’s external skin is completely different. The rear is also completely new with new lights, hatch and bumper.

I can actually sense lot of things done right after a long long time at Tata Motors with the launch of Falcon 4 & 5 …

    a) Emphasis on performance oriented cars
    b) Design changes which would make them drastically different from the current offerings (the Indica design was becoming more of an eye sore after 15 years on the road)
    c) Name change (the Vista/ Indica obsession seems to be going away)

Nano CNG going out of stock is great news for them…well deserved success..finally.
