The 2014 Nissan Qashqai was unveiled in London yesterday and will hit select global markets from February 2014. Based on the new CMF Platform, the 2014 Qashqai is 49 kg lighter than the outgoing model despite gaining several new features.
Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK will build the Qashqai, which is a big name in the European crossover market. Since its launch in 2007, Nissan have sold 2 million units in the continent.
Some of the new features include all-LED headlights, active grille shutter system, dual floor luggage compartment, double piston shock absorbers, EPAS and Hill Start assist.
The Qashqai is presented in two petrol and two diesel engine options.
The 1.2 DIG-T (turbo) produces 115 PS and 190 Nm. It is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, and replaces the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine. The 1.6 DIG-T (turbo) produces 150 PS and 240 Nm and is mated to the same six-speed transmission.
Coming to the diesels, the first option is the familiar 1.5-liter dCi that produces 110 PS, and an extra 20 Nm of torque over the outgoing model for better in-gear flexibility. Nissan reports that the engine is quieter during operation, develops lower vibrations, and the weight of the engine is reduced as light-weight materials are used in its construction. Like the 1.2-liter petrol, this engine is fitted with a start-stop system.
The final engine option is the 1.6 dCi that makes 130 PS of power. It is available in both manual and automatic variants, as well as in two- and four-wheel drive modes.
