British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has been knocking on the doors of the Indian motorcycling scene since the time it showcased its wide spread at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Leicestershire-based company originally planned to setup a CKD unit in Karnataka, but plans changed and the automaker identified a site in Manesar, Haryana to assemble its bikes.
The first Triumph model would be launched in November and dealerships in major cities are reportedly under construction. Triumph is also seeking dealer partners in other cities for sales, parts, service and merchandise retail. The company has appointed Mr. Vimal Sumbly, former sales manager at Bajaj Auto, as the brand head for India.
Meanwhile our friends at RushLane.com has acquired images of Triumph motorcycles arriving at the Delhi international airport, packed in cardboard boxes. We aren't sure about the bikes or Triumph's launch plan, but it would have the Bonneville, Tiger 800XC, Speed triple, Street triple, Storm, Daytona 675 or the Rocket III Roadster.
Competition would mainly come from brands such as KTM, Kawasaki, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia and Harley Davidson.
