Kaustubh

Kaustubh Shinde, They say sooner or later your passion finds you. Sometime in late 2009, I started writing for IAB and ever since then it has been a roller coaster ride for me. An amazing experience that has taught me a lot, taken me to new places, driven some great cars and met some amazing people. When you don't find me on IAB (very rarely), you will find me either at a coffee shop or an eatery or at the nearest gadget store.Hope you enjoy IAB as much as we do!

Mahindra may have put new product launches on hold till 2016, but that does not mean existing products won’t improve.

The company has launched a refreshed version of the Bolero Pik-Up at a price of Rs 5.45 lakh (BS3 version) ex-showroom Pune.

The Pik-Up gets the updated Bolero’s front fascia for an SUV-type look.

The Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up facelift dons a new front fascia and new interiors along with a higher load capacity of 1,250 kg. The vehicle gets a stronger suspension (extra leafs on all corners), bottle holder, mobile charging point, seats with head restraints, slider and recliner, dual tone gear knob and straightened fender arches. The loading box with dimensions 2540 x 1700 x 650 (mm) stays the same, and so do the 57 liter fuel tank, the 1+1 seating configuration and 5,219mm overall length.

Seats are reclinable, slidable and have head restraints.

A key change in the model is the introduction of micro-hybrid technology to the Pik-Up range. Ignore what the name suggests, micro-hybrid is just a start-stop system fitted to the proven MDI 3200 Turbocharged engine. It displaces 2.5-liters and puts out 63 bhp @ 3,200 RPM and 195 Nm @ 1,500-1,800 RPM, enabling it to deliver a fuel efficiency of 13.86 km per litre. The company offers 3 years/unlimited kilometer warranty on the engine and driveline.

The Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up is the flagship brand in Mahindra’s pick-up portfolio (which includes the Maxi Truck range and the Genio range) contributing over 60% to overall pick-up sales. The company sold around 70,000 pick-up models last year and has a target of 1,02,000 units for this financial year.

Mahindra is expecting the LCV market to grow at 17% while the company itself is growing at a healthy 19%. On the basis of a burgeoning rural economy and strong monsoon, the company is expecting to achieve its target.
