The Datsun Go has entered real world tests and here are the first ever spy images of the upcoming low-cost hatchback. Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Reuben Jacob, spotted this no-camouflage Go test mule near Poonamallee High Road in Chennai. Nissan seems to have taped up the ‘Datsun’ logo and the ‘Go’ badge on the bootlid for some reason though.

The Go will have its market launch early next year with a sub-4 lakhs starting price.

Based on the Nissan Micra’s ‘V’ platform, the Go will be powered by the same 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine powering the Micra, though Nissan engineers will be tuning it to optimize economy. While the specifications of the engine were not revealed, we expect the ARAI to rate it in the region of 20km/l (given that the Micra Active delivers 19.49km/l).

The Go will be made at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai facility and the market launch will be conducted early next year. The company has promised a starting price below INR 4 lakhs, thus putting it in the league of the Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Spark and not to mention, its very own Micra Active.

Following its Indian launch, the Go would be sold in overseas markets like Indonesia and South Africa.

I did see the front on pics on Team BHP and I’ve to admit, the Go looks really hot. Nissan has really surprised me off late with their new Micra, Micra Active and the Terrano…all good offerings. They’re a very capable manufacturer world over and good to see them in action in India.
