Indian Autos Blog readers have already seen the next generation Maruti A-Star (referred to as the Suzuki Alto in international markets) testing in Southern Europe. This image though, comes fresh from our Gurgaon's congested streets!
Thanks to XBhp member 'hotshot.vipin', here is the first image of Maruti's all-new hatchback (that goes by its codename 'YL7') testing on Indian soil. Vipin notes that the camouflaged test mule had an "A-Star-like rear, but a completely different front".
The YL7 will be a global model for Suzuki and some reports have also indicated that it would replace the Suzuki Splash (Maruti Ritz) when it goes on sale next year. However, we think it is more of an Estilo and A-Star successor packaged into one.
Most importantly though, this YL7 is expected to premiere Maruti's new two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine. Developed in-house, this engine is set to break fuel efficiency records with industry estimates pinning it at 30km/l.
We would certainly expect to see the YL7 at the 2014 Auto Expo in February given that Maruti Suzuki’s CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa, said recently that the company was developing a “series of products” and some of them would be shown at the Auto Expo. Indian sales should also commence next year.
