The 2014 Skoda Octavia vRS unveiled in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and is on sale in the UK, today made its motor show debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Based on the third generation Octavia, the vRS is underpinned by the MQB platform which makes it significantly lighter than its predecessor. The performance variant announces its sporty credentials with the help of a new front bumper, LED daytime running lights, a subtle body kit, 18-inch alloy wheels and new rear diffuser with sporty twin exhaust pipes.
Available as a hatchback and a station wagon, the vRS offers performance without forgoing the high practicality of the regular variants. So you still get a spacious cabin and cavernous luggage space with the impressive stats.
The car is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol motor is a 2.0-litre TSI which develops 220PS while the oil burner is a 2.0-litre TDI which puts out 184PS. The engines are paired either to a 6-speed manual or a DSG automatic.
The petrol version accelerates from 0-100kph in 6.8 seconds before hitting a top whack of 246kph. The vRS diesel manages 0-100kph in 8.2 seconds with a top speed of 232kph.
In order to improve dynamics, Skoda has lowered the ride height (by 12mm for the hatchback and by 13mm for the estate), employed an advanced multi-link rear suspension and integrated an electronic differential lock (XDS) into the ESP.
