After taking a quick look at the 2014 Hyundai i10 and the Hyundai Grand i10 that were announced yesterday, our design expert, Shoeb, has rendered the Hyundai i10-based compact sedan that you see here.
The i10-based sedan would be a sub 4-meter car competing with the likes of the Honda Amaze and the Maruti Swift Dzire. Hyundai India wants to dethrone Maruti Suzuki as the largest car maker and this compact sedan is one of the important models in ensuring just that. The i10-based sedan would be built on the same BA platform that is being used in the Grand i10, which goes on sale on September 3.
In Brazil, Hyundai launched the HB20S, a sedan derivative of the HB20 hatchback, in early March. The HB20S looks exactly like the HB20, but comes with a boot. From a design standpoint, the HB20S sports an altered rear door design with a quarter glass, a sloping C-Pillar and a stubby boot. These design cues are also found on the Maruti Dzire when it evolved from the Maruti Swift. Shoeb has used these design elements in this rendering of the i10-based sedan as well. Which is what makes us think that this could very well be the Amaze/Dzire competitor Hyundai India has in mind.
Hyundai India is expected to launch this i10-based sedan sometime (preferably in the later half) in 2014. The Korean company has the 1.2-liter Kappa2 petrol engine, the 1.1-liter U2 diesel engine (which will have its Indian debut on the Grand i10) and the 1.4-liter CRDi featured on the i20. All these three engine options comply with the Indian small car regulations.
