Today Ford India celebrated the retail of the 300,000th Ford Figo by announcing the inauguration of five dealerships in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. The Figo was launched in early 2010 and credit to its aggressive pricing and the availability of a diesel engine, Ford has seen new milestones pass every few months.

Dealership inaugurations in Solan, Sri Ganganagar, Gaya, Anand and Sikar this month will mark the 300,000th car rollout. Facilities have also been planned in Kochi and Faridabad. Ford has about 265 sales and service points in 142 cities and plans to expand touch-points to 500 cities by mid-decade.

300,000 cars and counting - the Figo, an old Fiesta that came out of retirement, wrote new chapters in Ford India's domestic and export market businesses.

Ford exports the Figo to 37 international markets across Asia, Africa and South America. Out of these countries, the car enjoys the highest demand in South Africa and Mexico. Ford India's Chennai plant manufactures the Figo with an automatic transmission and a 1.6-liter petrol engine, but these variants are sadly reserved for exports only. Ford India has said that it would export the car to 50 overseas destinations eventually.

Last year the Figo received its first serious refresh that included modifications to the engine mapping, interior color and trim, presented it with new body colors as well as cosmetic revisions to the front and rear fascias.

Ford says 65% of Figo customers are first-time car buyers. Since the launch, the company has undertaken many service initiatives such as introducing Mobile Service Vans and launching Roadside Assistance programs.
