The Volvo S60 Polestar is the first production Volvo to be developed in association with its aftermarket tuning and motorsport partner, Polestar.
While Volvo is still undecided on the production of the S60 Polestar on a regular basis, the performance sedan has been launched in Australia in limited numbers. Only 50 units of the cars will be sold though. The Polestar will set you back by 109,950 Australian dollars (around Rs. 61.08 lakhs) which is 40,000 Australian dollars more expensive than the regular S60.
Volvo describes the car as "quickest point-to-point luxury European sedan – in any weather". Polestar has taken the regular S60 and modified its underpinnings extensively. The sedan gets new stabilizers, carbon fibre members and a suspension system which is about 80% stiffer than that of the normal S60!
That's not all, under the hood sits a wicked 3.0 litre six cylinder petrol engine that breaths via a Borg Warner turbocharger to belt out 345bhp. With the power being transmitted to all the four wheels via a tuned automatic transmission, the S60 Polestar reaches 100kph from rest in a scant 4.9 seconds.
Mr. Thomas Adersson, VP, Volvo Cars, told Indian Autos Blog that if there is a demand, the S60 Polestar could be considered for India. He also added that the Polestar aftermarket kits would be available in India in the future.
The Volvo S60 Polestar will be rivaling the likes of the BMW M3 and the Mercedes C63 AMG. It's appeal lies in the fact that its super exclusive.
