The Audi Q3 is due to be locally assembled, with the first Made-in Aurangabad units arriving next month. As a result, the price of the Q3 will be reduced slightly, as buyers no longer need to pay the hefty CBU taxes.
But, what if you need an even more affordable Audi? We reported sometime ago saying that Audi India would be introducing a new base variant of the Q3 and that it would be priced at about 25 lakhs.
Autocar India has now reported saying that such a model indeed exists and here is what you need to know.
It's going to be called the Q3 Sport and according to Autocar, it would be priced at INR 24.99 lakhs (ex-Showroom, Delhi). The Q3 Sport would be offered in a single engine option, a 2.0-liter TDI diesel (same engine found in the current Q3), detuned to produce 140bhp and 32.6kgm of torque.
The Q3 Sport would ditch the Audi Quattro four-wheel drive system for a front wheel drive layout. Audi will offer a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of the 7-speed DSG. These omissions help the Q3 shed about 140kg of weight, and as a result performance is not expected to be as blunted for a 37bhp deficit Q3.
It is further reported that some creature comforts like daytime running lights, Xenon lights, powered passenger seats and rear view camera will also be missing on this cut price model. However, you'll still get leather seats, climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels and cruise control on the Sport.
The Q3 Sport has been squarely targeted at the Mercedes A Class, Volvo V40 Cross Country and the upcoming BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes GLA Class. But we've to say that the Q3 will now be terrific value for money! And that's just the added icing on the cake.
