Audi has been having a stupendous run in the Indian market. The No. 1 luxury brand in India has recently launched the Audi R8 V10 Plus as its flagship offering and now the German car maker is all set to launch another brand shaping model, the Audi S6, in 4-6 weeks. The news came directly from Mr. Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India when we met him in Jaipur earlier this week.
The Audi S6 is essentially a bad boy avatar of the A6 and is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 TFSI petrol engine that puts out a healthy 420 bhp and a massive torque of 550 Nm which is available from 1,400 rpm all the way to 5,300 rpm. That enables the performance sedan to reach 100 kph from a stand still in mere 4.8 seconds.
In its attempt to be frugal, the V8 engine sports a cylinder management system dubbed as "Cylinder On Demand", which deactivates four cylinders under part loading conditions. The engine is mated to a quick shifting 7-speed S Tronic DSG transmission.
A dual mass fly wheel and electronically controlled engine bearings offer good refinement while the flaps in the exhaust pipes are responsible for a memorable sound track.
The Quattro all wheel drive system employs a self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring. The S6 can also be specified with a sport differential as an option, which distributes most of the power to the rear wheels. Carbon ceramic brakes are also optional.
The S6 comes with Audi Drive Select driving dynamics system which alters the car's performance parameters like steering and throttle response, shift points, adaptive suspension and so on. A range of 19" and 20" alloy wheels are available for the buyers to choose from.
The Audi S6 is not a volume spinner but its main assignment would be to improve the brand equity of Audi and the A6 in India.
