Dealership spins off a special edition Mahindra Quanto to push sales

Posted on: May 13, 2013 - 10:16am IST

The Mahindra Quanto is one of the early arrivals to the Indian compact SUV scene. The so called compact SUV, which is basically a chopped version of the Xylo, started off strongly.

However, the car’s sales performance is witnessing a gradual drop in the recent months and that is something for Mahindra to worry about, especially since the segment is growing and new rivals are being formed. In order to add some momentum to the sales, there seems to be a few dealer level additions to the car.

We stumbled upon a special edition that was nothing but a dealership customization. As you can see, the Quanto gets some accessories to make it look sporty. The accessorized car is based on the C4 mid-level variant.

The dual tone alloy wheels with red accent catches the eyes instantly. The red theme is continued in rubber strip on the doors. The door handles and the wing mirrors are finished in chrome.

On the inside, you can find the Quanto branded illuminated door sills and a display mounted on the right corner of the dashboard for GPS navigation system. Leather upholstery in another feature available in the special edition.

The car is powered by a 1.5 litre three cylinder diesel engine which develops 100 bhp. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Mahindra Quanto has been witnessing a downward trend with 2,099, 1,857 and 1,338 units sold in the months of February, March and April respectively. The descending order has forced the showrooms to take such special edition initiatives.

To make the life tougher for the Quanto, the Ford EcoSport, another sub-4 metre SUV is arriving next month.

Funny and stupid makeover. The red color theme is over the top and looks really ugly. M&M didn’t have a mini SUV to compete with Duster / Ecosport, so they decided to chop off their MUV Xylo and decided to call it an SUV ? What a strange way to market vehicles. Added 2 jump seats where only hens can sit and called it a 7 seater mini SUV. Whatever limited numbers they’re selling are all coming from the villages. Mahindra’s cunning marketing machinery can easily fool our ignorant villagers as they have been doing with the Bolero for long.

Any person with some sense of beauty would never look at the Quanto more than once. .

      @ayyapan ,
      Friend,
a car/ SUV isn’t just about looks and gimmicks. Reliability for an SUV is more significant. Moreover you should be confident that it won’t breakdown in a long rugged off-roading. And especially when you are driving far from home, the wide and reliable country wide service network is very crucial. We can’t have a perfect day everyday. I hope by now you would have come to know the reliability and friendliness offered by Renault .. :DDD. If you want to know the real story behind these cars, you must speak to the owners themselves, not just by looking them on the road. ex: most duster owners complain about heavy service delays over a month , and high cost of spares.. regarding looks, looks are very subjective matter, as far as beauty is concerned. All this chopped off xylo and washing machine n all,, its all pure crap and paid negative publicity by other brands. People can always speak about such things about any car , how much ever visually appealing they may be for some. So behave responsibly, think carefully and then express your views decently rather than spitting some baseless and nonsense blabber…

Where there is smoke, there is fire……..
Can’t we see fire behind the smoke ??? First of all, they bring Quanto chopping on Xylo, is this real engineering ??? Do you think such chopped or in other words not properly designed vehicle good for you ??? Will it give optimised driving control on the road ????

On other hand well designed Duster and Ecosport which are not chopped and churned vehicles. They are well thought off and made to perform and built for what they are supposed to do. What do u think, will chopped and fixed vehicles give better performance and driving pleasure [ which are not actually made for that segment, just to take advantage of early mover, they have done it eg Quanto, Desire etc .] Or the vehicle which are dreamed, designed and made to perform suiting it’s segment ??

With every passing day, Duster is climbing with more the speed then yesterday, on other hand Quanto is dropping on the momentum, every day. A big worry for M&M…………… and now another BIG fire EcoSport.
    Imagine……………

This cheapo after market upgrades are not going to help the cause.

There is a fine saying, ” What you give is what you get back.”

      Friend,
Speaking facts Quanto has undergone more rigorous testing than your baby love Dacia Duster. Infact Renault like companies use Indian consumers as their testing ground before launching in more developed economies.
And as far design is concerned , you have to learn a bit more then about the duster’s design n ll.. Using same platform , Quanto downsized from Xylo, then check that Duster is Logan on steroids. :D.. which way is better…..

@ Mohammed, I have been observing your comments on Mahindra stories. All are Mahindra bashing comments. While they are not at par with International players, they are doing very good compared to local players.

Looks like you are not at all comfortable with Mahindra’s superb performance.

The ugly duck with a bit of red sprayed all over. They could have used a bit of pink and purple too πŸ˜‰ Are they competing for the worst looking Indian car of the year award ? πŸ™‚

Lets face it. The Quanto is just not good enough. People know that its a “for the time being quick fix product ” till M&M releases their new mini SUV. The upcoming Verito Vibe is a similar story too.
