The Jeep Wranglers spotted are of different wheelbases. Even though the petrol engined Wrangler is tested, we doubt that it will be launched in India.

The Grand Cherokee which was spotted is a pre-facelift version but we were told by Nagesh Basavanhalli that Chrysler will launch the facelifted version here which was showcased at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The India spec version is likely to be powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine which develops 237 bhp and the transmission option could be an 8-speed automatic.

Mr. Mike Manley, head of Jeep brand is expected to visit in India in September or October to launch these very capable off roaders. Jeep will have to lay groundwork on the dealership network well in advance in order to ensure a smooth launch for the brand.

While the Jeep Grand Cherokee will rival the likes of Audi Q7, Mercedes GL Class and the BMW X5, the Jeep Wrangler will create a niche adventure segment whose price bracket would have the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.
