All of a sudden, two new segments have turned out to be the talk of the town in the Indian auto scene. Bad news for Hyundai India is that they do not have any products in both those segments.

Our reader, Mr. Sriram spotted the next gen i10 and Santa Fe testing in India. The new i10 is to be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year.

We're of course talking about the mini SUV segment, composed of cars such as the Renault Duster, Mahindra Quanto and the upcoming Ford EcoSport, not to mention the still-in-progress Maruti XA-Alpha. The other segment being the compact sedans which has witnessed record sales thanks to the newly launched Honda Amaze and the tried and tested Maruti Swift Dzire.

While the Hyundai i10 and the i20 witness good sales numbers, there is an obvious gap that has good potential. While Hyundai still sells the Accent (while still selling the Fluidic Verna which is a car two generations ahead!), it's obvious that something new needs to be brought in. The new entry level sedan from Hyundai is expected to arrive by 2014 - 2015 and it could share a lot of body parts with the all new i10 which is due to be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year.

With regards to the mini SUV, Bo Shin Seo, Hyundai Motor India Ltd Managing Director and CEO said - "Compact SUV is a very lucrative segment India. I think we are a bit late but we are developing a compact SUV to be launched soon."

The other significant launches from the Hyundai stable would be the all new i10 and the Santa Fe, the latter scheduled to be launched this year.
