At the 2013 New York Auto Show, Jeep has lifted the veil off the 2014 Jeep Cherokee which will replace the previous Jeep Liberty.
While the looks of the Jeep Cherokee have received their share of brickbats and bouquets, it is important to note that with the new model, has gone further upmarket than before.
Power will come from a base 2.4-liter 'Tigershark' motor (which already existed). This engine produces a maximum power of 184bhp and maximum torque of 231 Nm. An all new 3.2-liter Pentastar engine also finds its way underneath the Cherokee's bonnet. This V6 engine makes 271 bhp and churns 323 Nm of torque.
The new Jeep Cherokee comes with three different 4x4 driving modes as well. Termed as Active Drive I, Active Drive II and Active Drive Lock, it ensures that the Cherokee can go off-road just as it can on it.
Jeep will be offering four different variants to choose from - The Cherokee Sport, the Cherokee Latitude, the Cherokee Limited and the Cherokee Trailhawk. The new Cherokee will also see the introduction of the all new nine-speed ZF automatic transmission. Someone is competing with Land Rover here is it?
The Jeep brand is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market during the month of October this year, is what our sources tell us. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler will be the initial offerings here.
