The crossover has a long list of equipment to satisfy the highly demanding European customers. The car comes packed with features such as voice activated SYNC along with SYNC Emergency Assistance System. The Ford SYNC Applink that enables controlling smartphone apps by voice is included.
Apart from the electronic gadgetry, the European EcoSport gets six airbags to catchup with its European rivals. The B Segment compact SUV gets an all black dashboard with red contrast stitching, unlike the Indian version's dual tone interiors.
Engine options for the European EcoSport include the 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbo petrol, in two different states of tune - 100 bhp and 123 bhp. The other petrol engine is the 1.5 litre which generates 110 bhp. For diesel favoring European nations, a 1.5 litre 90 bhp motor is in the offing.
While the Indian EcoSport doesn't have much of a competition here beyond the Renault Duster, the situation is completely different in Europe. Compact crossover SUVs like the Peugeot 2008, the Nissan Juke, the Opel Mokka, Chevrolet Trax, Fiat 500X etc,. are there to place enough hurdles in the EcoSport's path. Volkswagen and Honda have also promised to launch a compact SUV into this category in the years ahead.
The Ford EcoSport has been received very well in all the markets it entered. However it is to be noted that those are emerging markets and the EcoSport is yet to set its foot on developed markets. Given that the car is based on the Fiesta which the Europeans love, we could expect it to start off strongly.
