Ford has launched the Figo facelift in Sri Lanka along with the new Ford Ranger pickup truck that will underpin the next generation Endeavour, a definite candidate in the 8-product mid-decade plan announced by Ford India.

Ford Figo facelift launch in Mumbai

The Ford Figo has been present in the island nation since 2011 but the Lankans had to wait till now to get their hands on the facelifted version of the hatchback. Needless to say, the Figo is imported into Sri Lanka from India.

Apart from launching new products, Future Automobiles, the official importer and distributor of Ford in Sri Lanka has announced that an investment of 400 million Sri Lankan Rupees (around Rs. 17 crore) has been made to set up a state-of-the-art sales, service and spare parts facility at Battaramulla, a suburb of Colombo.

The facility is expected to be operational in the last quarter of 2013. In addition, Future Automobiles is also in the process of setting up a dedicated workshop and diagnostic centre for Ford vehicles at Rajagiriya, near Colombo.

Mr. Suraj Fernando, Executive Director, Future Automobiles stated that Sri Lanka will be getting more Ford products in the near future including the Ford Mondeo, Ford Kuga and the Ford EcoSport. However he didn't share any time frame for the launch of the new products.

We reckon that Ford India would start the export of the EcoSport to nations which are existing Figo customers before spreading the reach. One thing is certain, India is set to become a prime export hub for the Ford EcoSport.
