Ford Middle East, which also includes the Lincoln brand has witnessed an impressive growth in sales.
Ford's sales chart for the land of crude oil stood 10% taller in 2012 than the previous year after selling around 75,000 units. The growth in the last quarter of 2012 alone was a phenomenal 42%.
Ford Middle East has now confirmed that the EcoSport compact SUV will be launched in the region this year along with many new products from both Ford and Lincoln brands. The corporate communications team has not put out numbers, the exact launch timetable or the point of sourcing.
Mr. Thierry Sabbagh, Ford Middle East's sales director stated, "We are geared up to start 2013 on a high note as we continue to be laser-focused on the One Ford plan and work with our dealers to further grow the business and introduce exciting models such as the all-new Ford Focus ST, Escape, Fusion and EcoSport, together with the all-new Lincoln MKZ, all of which are true to the One Ford promise."
The Ford EcoSport will slowly start going places from this year onwards and would eventually become a global model. As of now the car will be produced only in Brazil, China and India.
Brazil is expected only to cater to its neighboring countries and China will only look after the domestic demand. Which brings us to the possibility that the EcoSport for other international markets could go from India and the proposed factory in Thailand. The Figo for the Middle East is going from the Indian plant, so Ford India knows the route well.
Could this make Ford India one of the biggest car exporters of the country?
