The BMW 5 Series is the next Beemer in line to receive its Life Cycle Impulse (LCI). Yes that is the term BMW has given to its mid life facelifts.
The Chinese media has spotted the most revealing test mule of the car till date. The beige mule completely shows us the changes made to the front and rear fascias.
The front sports a new bumper which incorporates bigger fog lamps. The chrome detailing in the vicinity of the fog lamps is a good touch and is sure to appeal to chrome loving people like the Chinese and the Indians. The chin of the car is contoured and the lower edges are more accentuated to form air splitters.
The profile of the car is intact, but we expect to see new alloy wheels on the facelifted model. The rear gets a new bumper as well, which features mildly altered surfaces. The biggest change to the rear however is the shape of the dual exhaust pipes. The current car's circular pipes make way for quadrilateral units.
The interior is expected to undergo minor tweaks and the touchscreen display could be borrowed from the 7 Series. However, the facelifted luxury sedan would continue without any significant mechanical changes. The 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and diesel motors are likely to continue untouched.
The global media speculates that the BMW 5 Series facelift would debut in March, but Chinese media reports that the sedan will be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show which commences on April 20. The fact that the car was spotted in China makes the latter's case stronger.
