The new S80 is at least two years away and until it is market-ready, a stop-gap has to be in place to keep the S80 on the back of the mind of BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes E Class prospect.

Here comes the right solution - a minor cosmetic update to the S80 to extend it life by a couple of more years. The front-end departure is clearly inspired by the direction the smaller siblings have set off in. The grille is shorter and sharper, the airdam is built with continuously extending horizontal slabs, while circular foglights have given way to a more classy polygon unit.

Our Swedish vocabulary is work in progress, so we'll cut out some of the meaningful sentences from Google Translator's version of the story reported on Auto Motor & Sport.

The highlight of the Volvo S80 facelift is the four-cylinder D2 diesel engine which makes 115 hp, that has a consumption of just 4.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of just 108 g/km. The S80 facelift is also available with a 1.6-liter GTDi engine (Ford Ecoboost unit) that provides 180 hp with a fuel consumption statistic of 7.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 165 g/km.

An interior package dubbed "Executive" provides the highest level of exclusivity. The second interior pack "Inscription" is the choice for customers who want to design the cabin to their preferences.

"We are very proud to have the Bridge of Weir in Scotland as the supplier of our leather seats," says Lena Jiseborn, design director of the S80's interior. "Their high quality leather is less surfaced, making it softer and more natural. The seat quality along with the other materials give the car a truly Scandinavian feel," summarizes Jiseborn.
