After nearly a couple of months of waiting, Tata Motors have announced that the official launch of the Tata Vista D90 will take place on January 28, 2013 (Monday).

The launch will be held at the Buddh International Circuit and Mr. Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors will be addressing the conference as well.

The most significant change lies underneath the hood of the Vista. The 1.3-liter Quadrajet engine now churns out 88bhp (as against 75bhp of the normal Vista) and this comes as a benefit of the Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). The torque has also increased from 190Nm to 200Nm.

Inside, the instrument cluster no longer takes center stage and now tucks behind the steering wheel. This has been attributed to negative customer response. The suspension has been reworked and promises better handling.

From the outside, the Tata Vista D90 will have a black roof, irrespective of the color and a small ’90’ badge at the rear of the car will differentiate it from its less powerful sibling.

The Tata Vista D90 will be available in two variants – VX and ZX. The VX is priced at INR 6.03 lakhs and gets ABS and EBD. The ZX variant at INR 6.63 lakhs gets airbags and alloy wheels as well (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

We managed to take the car for a small spin and you can read our brief review below.

Tata cars are really good but the main problem with these cars is that the quality of the plastic is way back in comparison to other companies like maruti and hyundai,i mean just look at the interior of hyundai cars. But tata cars are really well build as compare to these korean and japnese cars. And if tata improves the interior and quality of its vehicles then it can definitely dismantle Hyundai from second place by 2020

Its top speed was 162kmph. I was expecting it to a bit faster, given that Swift diesel touches 160 easily. May be after a service or two top speed improves a bit?

I can think of two reasons:

1.Power to weight ratio,Swift(new) is around 950kgs in terms of kerb weight, whilst Vista is around 1145kgs,hence top speed should be similar.

2.I have read somewhere that Fiat has electronically linited the top speed of its multijet engines(1.3) to 165kmph,otherwise the 90 bhp JTD can easily do 190kmph.

Well, my first car Alto was an average experience, my second car Safari was a good experience, my third car Scorpio was a horrible experience. My fourth, fifth and sixth cars were Vista ,Innova and Manza respectively and they all turned out to excellent choices.(Currently left with Manza & Innova) So, everytime I made a decision not listening to my friends/ relatives, media write ups and showroom folks and made a decision after intense studies and exhaustive testing, my experience was great.

When I decided to buy the Vista years ago, I didn’t get much support. But let me tell you, if you keep an open mind to understand the car, the Vista would turn out to be one of the most competent cars in its segment and offer the best value for money for Indian families.

It has a brilliant ride, luxurious, cosy interiors, sofa like seats, extremely slient cabin, good mileage, one of the world’s best diesel engine with a punchy mid range and finally it’s dirt cheap to buy and maintain. No knee pain, no leg hurt. no neck strain, no jumping around on bad roads and humps..just relaxed ride for 5 people on long drives without having to put your hands on another guys shoulders because of lack of space. Solid built, doors close with a thud, planted on the road like a Fiat actually.

It had phenomenal levels of equipment-my VX had AC, PS, 4 PW, ABS, Electrical OVRM’s, 60:40 split seat, Fog lamps, Storage under co driver seat, rear and front power sockets, steering mounted audio controls, seat height adjustment, Keyless Entry, 2 DIN Audio with Bluetooth pairing for 5 mobiles. No manufacturer on mother earth would offer such value for the money you pay :)

Coming to Vista D90, they should have strong enough differentiators to attract buyers, just the black roof wouldn’t work, I suppose :(

I drove this car for 3 days as a part of Tata Motors-Blog adda initiative. It feels good overall.

I’m told there’s a ZX Plus variant which will have contrasting roof in all colours and a navigation system (ZX will have contrasting roof only in red colour)

    • Xover@TAI

Will they launch ZX+ on 28th itself or later on?

Well we’ll have to find out, we don’t know that yet.
