The company handling advertisement campaigns for Maruti Suzuki has done us a big favor by providing the first glimpse of what is believed to be the Maruti Wagon R facelift.

Our eagle eyed buddies at were the first to spot this new-faced Wagon R on the Youtube version of a new TV commercial.

The Maruti Wagon R facelift arrives on the third year of the new model’s launch. The Wagon R is a big name in the Maruti family, over a million examples have been sold among the two generations that popularized the ‘kei car’ culture in India.

The Wagon R comes with petrol, LPG and CNG options. It competes with the Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and Chevrolet Beat.

As you can note from this screen grab taken at the 40 second mark of the commercial, the new Wagon R has mild changes to the plastic body parts such as the grille that now gets a giant slat trimmed in chrome, a taller trapezoidal air dam, and drawn-back foglight enclosures.

If the exterior design changes set the tone on this facelift, expect nothing spectacular on the interior. Maruti’s philosophy with products has been to continuously upgrade or update them as the customer distraction that comes from frequent new launches from competitors can lead to their migration and product fatigue.

Maruti needs a diesel engine for the Wagon R, the counterpart of the Chevrolet Beat’s 1-liter unit can revitalize sales, but it is unlikely that there is such a plan for the facelift.

We expect the Maruti Wagon R facelift to launch before the end of the current financial year.
